Marriages are made in bureaus

Many young Indian women entrust the responsibility of finding a suitable husband to their families who in turn use matrimonial bureaus and brokers. Such matchmaking is based on externalities: religion, caste, height, colour, income, astrology. I followed the lives of 4 women in my hometown, each at a different stage of the arranged marriage process, to demystify this unique matchmaking style.
